Winged Wheel Crit

Saturday 22nd May 2004

Me and Andy Windsor went to this crit on Saturday and although there wasn’t much wind it seemed to be on you all the way round the circuit except for about 100m. After a lot of jumping about I went clear on my own taking the first prime.

As no one came across to me I was beginning to suffer a bit with the wind [ed: ooh er missus]. With the amount of bunch engines behind I was eventually caught. This started another series of attacks when I went clear again with 3 other riders. A lap later Andy came across and we hammered it in the break with Andy picking up the second and final prime. Once we hit 5 laps to go the other riders in the break started watching me knowing I would jump. At 2 to go I went but they where straight on my wheel then using the next bend and Andy to block the race line, cheers, I jumped and went clear.

I stayed away for the win and Andy not knowing the finish hit the last bend at the back of the remaining 4 riders which didn’t leave him enough time to move up.

Thanks to Andrew Martin for this report.
