Warrington Road Club Race

Thursday 20th May 2004

On a chilly but bright evening, a large entry of Deeside men lined up for this 40 mile handicap race.

At the start we were only out numbered be the Warrington club, who were running the race.

In the over 50's John Hayhurst was our only rider. In the 40-49 we had Mal Ridgeway and myself Then Ian Edwards, Mark Jones and the Hughes brothers, Richard and Michael completed our octet.

Each group had a handicap of three minuets to make up, but by the time the race finally came together for the final sprint for the honours the Deeside men were nowhere to be seen. A combination of bad luck and poor form saw some already changed and on the way home as the winners crossed the line. While those who chose not to pack completed the course, using it as a training session.

So for once Deeside came home empty handed, fortunately, this season this is a rare event.

Thanks to Marcus Fluegge for this report.
