Recycling.co.uk road race league Elswick

On Sunday 25th April Andy Martin, Steve Lloyd and I rode round two of the Recycling RR league at Elswick, Lancs.

The race distance was 70 miles, over 9 laps of a flatish circuit.

I picked up the first two primes, on laps 1 and 2, but it wasn't until the third lap that we managed to get a successful break together of 10 riders, including Andy and myself. The biggest lead we had on the main field was 1 minute, but then it began to come down as riders started missing turns. When the lead was down to 20 seconds Andy and I decided to attack the group. Andy was able to get away on his own and then I jumped across to him. We then completed the last 15 miles on our own, with the bunch chasing behind, never more than 35 seconds back. On the way to the finish I picked up the last two primes to win the points competition. At the finish Andy crossed the line first to move into the lead in the overall league rankings.

Back in the main field Steve had the benefit of having team mates in the break and was able to sprint in to 5th Place at the finish.
