Recycling Cockerham

Sunday 22nd August

Four riders from Deeside Olympic started, Simon Oliver and Steve Lloyd in the E12 event and Steve Bradbrook, Anthony Jones and Big Mick in the 34 event.

Although Ant and the two Steves nearly never made the start due to a mechanical difficulty en-route to the race. No its not one of Bradys excuses.

NEWSFLASH
- Paula Ratcliffe has contacted Brady for an excuse for her poor performance in the marathon.

Both races were held on a flat course in good conditions.

In the E12 event a break of 4 riders including the Turnbull brothers and 2 Wills Wheels (Fat Mapei) riders one being Will Wright. This break was formed within the opening miles of the race. Shortly after Steve Lloyd crossed the gap to the break followed by another 2 riders. The break of 7 quickly established a lead of two and a half minutes with most of the break sharing the work.

With one and a half laps out of 5 remaining the Turnbull brothers and Wills wheels began attacking the break resulting in 3 riders going clear from the break Nathan Turnbull, Will Wright and Steve Lloyd. Will Wright a bit shy when it comes to working, again tried a number of attacks but was quickly brought back.

Nathan led the sprint out from 150 yards with Steve coming in second and Wright in third. Simon finished in the bunch relieved it was his last race of the season.

As a result of winning 2 primes and taking second place Steve has moved up to third place behind Andy Martin in the Recycling league table. Leader Mark Turnbull taking primes but not getting a result. This should make the next event in Pimbo interesting !!

In the 34 race no break managed to stay away due to the usual tactics employed in this type of race. Despite efforts by all 3 riders to form a break the race was decided by a bunch sprint with Brady getting sixth place, even with a close encounter with a hedge .This time it was not an excuse as he had cuts to prove.Well done Brad about time you got a second category licence !!

More good news is that the Steves did not have to give Anthony as much petrol money as expected due RACs assistance with the return journey !!

Thanks to Steve Lloyd for this report.
