Recycling.co.uk Road Race League

Myself, Steve Lloyd, Andy Martin, Andy Windsor, Simon Oliver and Rob Partridge rode the third round of the Recycling.co.uk Road Race League on Sunday 9th May for Elite, 1st and 2nd cat riders.

The event was held on the Lach Dennis circuit, which is pan flat and was about 110km covering enough laps to make you dissy!

I was not feeling 100%, as I had had a cold all week, so the plan was to have a few goes to soften up the opposition for Steve. The pace was high throughout with an average speed of 26.5mph for the 110km. Myself and Steve Lloyd got in a break of 10 in the first 15 miles, with the break working well together we soon had a lead of 2 minutes on the bunch which was being controlled by the other lads (cheers). With just over 3 laps to go, about 12 miles, I managed to open up a small gap, Leigh Cowell, Ribble Valley CRC was the only one to react so the 2 of us soon opened up a reasonable gap as there was very little reaction from the break behind. We stayed together to finish not attacking each other and with about 500 to go we rode side by side, selected our sprinting gear (53x12 for me) and then let rip with me winning.

My first win in an Elite cat race since I started again and totally unexpected!

Steve Lloyd had the strogest legs in the chasing break, sprinting to get an impressive 3rd place.

Result: 105km - 2hrs 20 mins 41 secs
