Deeside Olympic had a strong representation in the Mersey Roads Spring Two Day race with Norman Hughes, Steve Lloyd, Andrew Martin, Andrew Windsor and Rob Partridge.

The event started with the 1.6km TT up the Kinnerton Bumps into a slight head wind. Norman was the quickest of the Deeside riders with a time of 3:02.60 in 10th place, Andrew Windsor was just behind with 3:03.00 followed by Andrew Martin at 3:08.00, Rob came in with 3:10.20 and Steve 3:17.80.

Stage 2 around the Hope circuit, again, saw Norman finish the highest in 25th position with Rob coming in 42nd, Andrew M 57th, Steve 71st and Andrew W 75th.

The final stage on the Sunday, around the 132km Denbigh circuit, which included the Nant-y-garth Pass and in wet and windy conditions, tested the strength of all the competitors. Andrew M and Norman finished in the second group of 7 riders just behind the race winner, John Charlesworth (Bannatyne CRT). Rob finished just 14 seconds behind Rob Hayles (Team Persil) in 13th place, Steve put in a strong ride to end up 22nd with Andrew W completing the day in 48th place.

A brilliant performance from all the Veeboard boys with Norman finishing 5th, ahead of Mark Lovatt (Planet X/On-one) and Andrew Martin in 8th beating Rob Hayles (Team Persil) and all the lads finishing in the top 50 in a very strong field.
