Deeside Olympic 1961In 1961 the club really started to grow with riders like Tom Kibble, Dave Smith (Wiffy), John Bowling, Reggie Breckon and Steve Ellis joining. The Deeside also started to organise some great races for the area. The main race being the Deeside Grand Prix which was for semi pros and amateurs. The likes of Bill Bradley, Peter Gorden, Albert Hitchin, Stan Britan, John Geddes and Kenny Hill always used to ride. The Deeside also started to Organised a series of mid week races called the Deeside Crits promoted on the local Hope – Penyfordd roads these were always very popular with the Merseyside riders.

In 1963 the club was still attracting riders with Steve and Phil McCormack two brothers From Chester joining also the likes of Dave Vose also from Chester. Dave went on to Became a top international rider riding in lots of continental races for his country and finishing 2nd in the British road race championship. The Club was also starting to attract a few schoolboys with the likes of Graham Weigh and Andy Whitehead starting to race.

Deeside Olympic members 1971The club was growing all the time and was starting to get lots of success with the likes of Tom Kibble in the late 60s and the likes of Andy Whitehead going into the 70s Andy’s best win being the 1972 Eddy Soens road race one of the biggest early season races in the contry. Andy also went on to ride in the commonwealth games in Edinburgh.

In 1979 Graham Weigh proprietor of Deeside Cycles had started to sponsor the club with the likes of Gordon Wallace, Pete Lewis, Phil Windsor and Mike Jones all riding for the club. 1980 and 1981 was the year lots of new riders started to join the club with riders such as Phil Evans, Keith Jones, Russ Harrington, Gorden Smith, John Clewarth and Graham Weigh all riding as 1st cats with lots of success. Russ and Keith went on to finish 5th and 6th in the 1982 commonwealth games in Australia. Also Karl Cliff winning the welsh schoolboy championship. Towards the end of the 80s the club started to get a few younger riders starting to join with the likes of Steve Bradbrook and Arnies son Steve Lloyd starting to race.

Deeside Olympic 19901990 was the year the club split into two with a few riders leaving to start the CC 90 cycling club witch did not to last very long. This year was the year Graham Weigh and Alan Belton decided to sponsor the club again with lots of new riders coming into the club riders such as Norman Hughes (NO HANDS), Dan Wedley, Antony Jones and Richard Hughes all gaining lots of successes. In the early 90s the club continued to gain successes with James Griffith finishing 2nd in the national junior road race championship in the Isle of Man.

Into the late 90s John Hale from Veeboard Ltd came onboard as the sponsor. The club had only seven riders at this time. Deeside were at first just going to be a racing team but desided to become a club once again. Over the last four years the club has had lots more successes with the likes of Charlotte Hopkinson winning the world masters pursuit championship and also the British crit title, Keith Jones finishing 2nd to Sean Yates in the world masters pursuit and winning the British vets road title and also winning the British pursuit and points race title. Norman Hughes winning the British masters time trial title, Andrew Windsor and Rob Partridge winning the Welsh senior and junior road race titles.
