GS Orion Road Race

On Sunday myself and Andy Windsor went to Kippax in Yorkshire to ride the GS Orion RR. It was 14 laps of a grippy circuit for a race distance of 100km.

At the end of the first lap I got away in a group of 5 riders with only 3 of us working I knew we wouldn't stay clear with riders like Wayne Randle in the bunch behind. After 4 laps we where caught at the foot of the climb where Randle attacked immediately and opened a gap. As we got near the top of the hill I jumped with 2 other riders and got across to him, soon after we where joined by 3 more riders. It stayed like this until 6 laps to go when most the riders in the break started missing turns. Knowing Randle would attack I kept near him.

On the climb with 4 laps to go Randle put the hammer down, I was the only rider able to follow although in a lot of pain, he didn't look round for about 1 mile by this time the rest of the group had gone. I spent the next 4 laps getting my legs ripped to bits up every incline, by the time we hit the last lap I was cramping in places I didn't know muscles existed.

Randle took the sprint easily.
