Fibrax Wrexham 24 Mountain Time Trial

The weather couldn't of been better for the 71 riders who entered the Fibrax Wrexham 24 Mountain Time Trial on Sunday morning.

Deeside Olympic were represented by Larry Preston, Steve Thompson, Norman Hughes and myself, Ian Edwards.

My day started badly when I broke a spoke warming up at the bottom of the Horseshoe Pass. I thought that was my race over, luckily Steve told me Norman was warming up just down the road and to ask him if he had a spare, he did and I was back in the race. I finished with a time of 1.16.30.

Larry faired even worse, puncturing early on but continuing on until he eventually had to retire coming back up the Nant-y-Garth Pass.

Steve was feeling a little worse for ware after "too much Chili Con Carne in the Mexican restaurant the night before". Not an ideal pre-race meal eh Steve!!! Steve still put in a good time of 1.27.59.

Norman provided us with a master class in Time Trailing, even by his standards. He took the Prime to the top of the Horseshoe Pass in just 13.36. This set the stage for the rest of his ride and he never slowed down, completing the 24 miles in an amazing 1.03.40 over 4 minutes quicker than his nearest competitor, Dave Ebberell, Blackburn and District CTC.
