Cheshire 14 TLI Road Race Series

Tuesday 20th July 2004

At last, I thought, my favourite circuit, Lower Withington, flat as a pancake, I think I'll have a bit of a go tonight. Then Steve lloyd and Rob Partridge turned up and bang went that idea!

At least they made Rob start 30 seconds behind to give us a bit of a chance but he caught us half way round the second lap.

On the start of the third lap Rob and Steve (and some other rider!) rode off into the sunset, leaving Mal, Scottie and myself to try and control the bunch. Scottie took on the role of General and ordered Mal to "go fetch" the first attack, which he did, I went after the next and so on for the rest of the race. Even with all our efforts the bunch nearly caught them a couple of times but each time either Mal, me or Scottie chased hard, got to the front and sat up!

Needless to say we got the first and second places in the under 40's with Steve just beating Rob in the sprint. And as is tradition in the Tour De France, the victors shared their spoils with their hard working domestiques... NOT! Thanks lads.

Thanks to Ian Edwards for this report.
