DEESIDE OLYMPIC RESULTS

Birkenhead Park Series - Race 2

Thursday 6th May 2004

On Thursday 6th May, Rob Partridge and I rode round two of the Birkenhead Park Series.

The handicap for the race was set so that the E.1,2 group set off first and had to virtually unlap ourselves to catch the 3.4.J Group which had one lap less to do.

As we were only given a 10 second start we were told that if the 3rds and 4th's caught us we would be lapped, so had to go for it from the gun. Working hard together with the other scratch riders we made sure we weren't caught and eventualy caught the front of the race, at which point we attacked straight away to split the race and avoid any of the crashes !! Although we split the race to leave a lead group of about 10, we were unable to split it further, despite working well together to try to. Coming into the finish we were confident that we could win the race so Rob led out for me to sprint to a second win in the series for the club, following Simon Olivers win in round 1.
