There are members in the club who were not born the last time that Big Mick had his last win. I was there then and I was there this time.

We reckon it was 24 years ago in the Festival Kermesse in Stone when he cleared up all of the primes and won the race. Pedro, Tony Mike and I even went to the pub afterwards to celebrate. A long time coming but also well deserved, he has been close many times and maybe this will be the start of a few more - otherwise I'll be 73 when the next one comes!

On the night it was not the best of races - they joined us with the youngsters again and there was more than a share of bunch engines willing to tow everything back then sit up. It all came down to a sprint - some geezer tried to do a Robbie Mc and took Mike and myself across the road but calmness prevailed and we came in clear of the field with some young upstart trying to outsprint us before he had started shaving - no chance so we arrived in first and second across the line with our antipodean clubmate crossing the line in fourth to take second in the sprogs event.
