TLI League 1 and 2

Tuesday 10th May 2005

Following on from the first race in the series where Marcus, Mick and Malcolm had to marshall, Deeside managed to put out a full team this week - or almost!

Sam wins the Sandie Shaw award for barefootedness by turning up without her shoes(and helmet). Despite efforts to find a pair of size 4 Sam had to go home (Marcus had offered her his but she was not allowed to start with both feet in the one shoe. Award number 2 goes to Twinny A from Buckley who had a grey haired moment by staying with the old men and watching his race disappear up the road - we know he was going well in the chain gang the other week but the 30 seconds handicap he voluntarily gave himself was a little too much. Therefore at Kilometre 3 he regained the comfort of his grey haired companions.

So to the race. All five Deeside riders played an active role in the race. Marcus played then watching role by letting everyone know when they had reached the back of the bunch, Malcolm kept a good position throughout and put in one of his special attacks in 52 by 17 downhill to then put it straight into the 12 when he came to the climb - he came back to the bunch. Scottie played a much more active role than in the previous week when he was our sole rep in the over 40 mudbath. He cam 6th in that one. This week despite telling Malcolm to leave it late he spotted his chance by attacking into the sun at the last minute in a layby when noone could follow him with three miles to go. Not known for his staying power in solo attacks he seemed to have led himself up the wrong path until a fellow madman - scottie's favouritwe type - a strong one came across. They worked and kept the gap but when Andy Mills joined the break was doomed and they were caught inside 2 km to go - Marcus then advised Scottie when he reached the back of the bunch! Cue the big man still chasing that elusive win. Mick doesn't like this finish but always does well on it. The wind up came, the 12 sprocket went in (mal changed to the 16) and away he went. At the line he was less than a length down to finish a fine third not bad for his first race of the year.
