TLI Denbigh Road Race

Sunday 17th April 2005

Deeside riders were all out in force for the annual Deeside Olympic TLI road race.

On a very cold April morning the race started with over 100 riders. It was run as a handicap race with the 50+ riders setting of first led by John Roberts, Steve Thompson, Rob Burrows and Sam Roberts. The next group the 40 to 49 year olds were set of some two and a half minutes later led by Ian (Lucy) Rothwell riding like a man on a mission in his first road race. A further two minutes back the first half of the senior group set of and then one further minute back the faster senior group were set of.

The four groups were soon into there stride with Norm, John and the two Andy's driving the fast group. With one lap to go the groups had all come together with 17 riders forcing there way of the front including 14 year old James Edwards riding in only his second road race. On the Denbigh by pass it was a case of who was going to be the first Deeside rider to attack it was Andy Martin who was obviously up for this attacking into the headwind and going on to win the race. John Skates was the next Deeside rider to come in 2nd place with Norman Hughes finishing 3rd. Andy Windsor was the next
Deeside rider in in 8th Place.

All in all this was a well supported race and well done to everyone who rode the race also all the marshals. I said I was not going to mention this but well done to Sam for dropping Ian (Lucy), I have never known him so quiet.

Thanks to Keith Jones for this report
