Janus RC - Will's Wheel's Fastpak RR

Myself, Ian Edwards & Mal Ridgeway rode the Janus RC road race on Friday evening. The race was 7 laps of the Lach Dennis circuit, which is near Northwich in Cheshire.

The race was pretty quiet on the first lap, with any breakaway attempts quickly countered. On lap 2 a couple of riders got away with a Birmingham Univ CC rider staying away for about 4 laps. Ian & myself were involved in the chase, and by the bell we all back together. The finishing straight is about ¾ of a mile and follows a sharp, crap suffaced left hander. Throughout the race I told myself I need to be top 10 and on the right going into the final corner. Come the final corner I was near to back and on the curb! Perfect.

As we hit the finishing straight the pace increased and gaps opened. Approaching the yellow flag, I found myself with a pretty good run to the line – going past riders with open road ahead. At this point I thought I was on for my first win! Then a GB Fire Service rider zipped across me causing me to slow up. After much cursing I finished 8th overall. Ian & Mal finished safe in the bunch.
