Fibrax Wrexham 24 Mountain Time Trial

Sunday 24th April 2005

With the first rider not off until 9.01am conditions where a little warmer than usual for the annual Fibrax Wrexham 24 Mountain Time Trial, the only fly in the ointment was the nagging easterly breeze which seemed to be in you face all the way round!

Having won the event for the last 2 years I was last man off in a field of 75 riders, also representing the club were Chris Hughes, Anthony Jones, Ian Edwards and James Edwards.

With the incentive of £100 first prize and £25 for being the fastest up the Horseshoe Pass I set off from the Crucis Abbey like a man on a mission clad in skinsuit, new Las Aero Helmet and riding my Lo Pro! (cool tester eh Keith). From the off I could see that it was going to be a tough ride thanks to the easterly breeze.

I climbed the Shoe in a time of 13.59 and finished with a time of 1.04.34 for the UNDULATING 24 miles. This time was good enough for the win plus I had recorded the fastest time up the Shoe! Chris Hughes finished with a time of 1.13.59 (11th), Anthony Jones 1.15.46 which when combined gave us a 2nd place in the team prize. Ian Edwards recorded 1.17.04 and once again suffered the dreaded cramp (anyone got any suggestions) and the youngest of the team James Edwards recorded a creditable 1.21.55 which placed him as the 2nd fastest junior.

Thanks to Norman Hughes for this report
