With enough Deeside riders to have a race amongst ourselves, it felt like we were falling over each other for the first couple of laps.

Half way round the first lap John Skates got away and spent the next lap on his own, 30 seconds ahead of the bunch. Then on the second time along the Denbigh by-pass a group of about 10 of us forced a split at the front of the bunch. By Llandrynog roundabout we had caught John and split the group to leave 7 of us clear, John, Steve Lloyd, Andy Mills, Rob Pugh, Rob Partridge, a Holyhead rider and me. We then worked together to build a good lead over the bunch.

On the last lap there were a number of attacks to try and split the group. I broke away with Rob Pugh on the Denbigh by-pass, only to be caught at the Llandrynog roundabout with a mile to go, which killed my legs for the sprint. Five of us sprinted for the line together, with Rob Partridge winning, Andy Mills second, me third and John fourth. Steve finished 6th, having been tailed off on the last climb with cramp.
